Sun Focus | NY Times best selling author talks foster care

A former foster child and now advocate for children in the welfare system, Andrew Bridge, spoke during the recent Compassion Action Network (CAN) meeting in the Unity Hospital Auditorium on May 14. CAN is an organization described as a collaborative effort of Anoka County Human Services, faith communities and non-profit organizations to build resources and strengthen the community.

The meeting focused on the need to harbor resilience in the communities youth and to help people understand exactly what a foster child is going through.

During his speech, Bridge discussed the need for an increase in training and support for social workers, parent engagement, sensitivity when removing children from homes, and emotional support for children in the system
