Foster Care: Rescued to be condemned.

There’s no question, world wide children are being abused by the very people who are suppose to be protecting them. In a Noble effert to help rescue and raise children up from this abuse/neglect agencies were created. These child protection agencies step in and remove children from horrible circumstances in an effert to give them a better chance a better future.

Billions of Dollars are poured into these agencies every year to do just that. We have Courts, Counselors, Social Workers, CASA and many more millions Dedicating there lives to these children. And every year the Number of children going into the system seems to double.

I as a former foster child have my doubts as to the true validity of many of these abuse cases based on my research and social media involvement with other former foster children, families and even proffessionals in the fields of social work and courts. (Yet i will save that argument for another time)

I want to talk about one of the paths for these foster children that i find very troublesome. I want to talk about the medicating of foster children and show a disturbing look at the possible effects these medications have caused for the childrens future (costing billions of tax payers dollars)

When federal inspectors set out to examine how powerful antipsychotic drugs were being used on children in the nation’s public health systems, they found a 4-year-old on four psychiatric drugs, a 10-year-old prescribed without medical records, and a 16-year-old on six psych meds, including a prescription at double the maximum recommended dosage.

Only 8 percent of claims examined met the federal standard of “medically accepted,” with many of the drugs prescribed for treatments not approved by the Food and Drug Administration

Foster kids covered by Medicaid are prescribed too many antipsychotic drugs, too young, for too long, and at the wrong dosages, according to an alarming new five-state review by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The department’s Office of the Inspector General report included California children in its in-depth look at hundreds of medical files and found “quality-of-care concerns” in two-thirds of cases. More than half the children nationwide were poorly monitored, even though the drugs can cause obesity, diabetes and irreversible tremors; more than 40 percent received the “wrong treatment;” and more than one-third simply got “too many drugs,” the report states.

“The antipsychotics are specifically designed to alter the way we think, feel and behave, and they do that through manipulating the chemicals that are occurring in the brain,” with unknown long-term effects, he added. “We are messing with things we don’t fully understand.”

Now According to national statistics provided by Arrow, 40 to 50 percent of those children will never complete high school. Sixty-six percent of them will be homeless, go to jail or die within one year of leaving the foster care system at 18.

Arrow also said 80 percent of the prison population once was in foster care. And according to wiki America’s foster youth represent a large number of the incarcerated. In California, 70% of prisoners spent time in foster care system.

Perhaps the single greatest force behind the growth of the prison population has been the national “War on Drugs.” The number of incarcerated drug offenders has increased twelvefold since 1980. In 2000, 22 percent of those in federal and state prisons were convicted on drug charges.

We have children being prescribed  these heavy psycotropic drugs at a very young age when their brains are devoloping. And what we are doing is teaching these children to medicate or drug their problems rather then teaching self coping skills.

In essence the child welfare/foster care system has helped to create a generation of drug addicts (with the help of big pharma) to continue to fuel the needed drugs addicts for our war on drugs and our prison population. › News › Local News…/federal-study-finds-alarming-use-antipsychotics…
